Hi there! Nice to meet you!
We are Colter and Maryn Heap. We are 13-year-old twins who are kids of restaurant owners. We created this blog to help kids get outside their comfort zone and try new restaurants and new foods. Instead of going to a normal kid-friendly pizzeria or burger joint, we are going to be daring and go to more adult restaurants. We will take a hit for the team and try some of the foods that at first glance a kid might think are gross. We are going to do some of the dirty work for the kids who read this blog, so maybe you will be able to get off the kid's menu and try some more adventurous items. We are pretty brave and are probably going to try some interesting food, but not oysters....we are still only 13!
To begin with, we made a 7-page spread-sheet for our note-taking at each restaurant. We made this spread-sheet so we would have our questions prepared before our dining experience. Just like a science experiment, we need to compare all these restaurants equally. The qualities we looked at included ambience, dress code, location and history, price, staff and service and menu options. When it came to ordering food, we deliberately selected foods kids might not like. It's time to take off the culinary training wheels. We might fall off that bike sometimes, but we will always get back up and keep riding!
Maryn is a vegetarian and Colter eats meat. This creates a challenging dining adventure. It is difficult to meet everyone's needs, especially at an adult restaurant. Our goal is to find great restaurants with excellent food that vegetarian and carnivorous kids would like. We are staying away from more "kid-friendly" restaurants because these are obvious choices. We hope this blog will help kids feel brave about some of the great restaurants in Boulder. We will check out some restaurants that we have hand-picked, and we will sample some foods that may be a bit obscure.
We are planning to go to a new restaurant every month or so. Please check back!
We hope you enjoy our blog!
